New Forest Practices Code
The provincial government is committed to introducing a new, workable, results based Forest Practices Code that will streamline the regulatory burden on the forest industry, enhance the industry's competitiveness and continue our exemplary forest stewardship.
The forest industry strongly supports this and the government's other new era forestry commitments.
The Ministries of Forests and Water, Land and Air Protection have released a discussion paper containing their proposals for a new Forest Practices Code.
The government has established consultation processes to receive public and stakeholder responses to these proposals.
The forest industry welcomes these processes.

COFI and its four member regional associations, representing more than 100 forest companies operating in all regions of the province, are making presentations to the Committee of MLA's receiving public input and to Dr. George Hoberg, who is receiving stakeholder input.
The associations' initial evaluation of the Ministries' proposals indicates these proposals will not meet the government's objectives. An alternative must be found.
