Agency Accreditation
- COFI is accredited as a lumber grading inspection agency by the only accreditation body formally recognized by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA), the Canadian Lumber Standards Accreditation Board (CLSAB) and the Board of Review of the American Lumber Standard Committee, Inc. (ALSC), which operates under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
- COFI is approved by the Canadian Food Inspection Service (CFIA) to issue “Heat Treatment Certification Using a Kiln Facility” documents. These certificates are required to meet import requirements of the European Union (EU) and are used to obtain phytosanitary certificates from CFIA for lumber exports into other countries.
- COFI is a member of the National Lumber Grades Authority (NLGA). The NLGA grading rule is approved and enforced by the CLSAB and ALS Board of Review enabling acceptance under Canadian and US building codes.
- The National Grading Rule for all North American dimension lumber 2” to 4” thick, as developed by the National Grading Rule Committee authorized under the US Department of Commerce Voluntary Product Standard 20, with Canadian representation, is incorporated into the NLGA Rule. The Rule establishes standard lumber grades and grade names for all commercial species of dimension lumber assuring users of uniform performance.
- COFI is approved to provide quality control and certification services for machine stress-rated (MSR) lumber and structural-glued lumber products.
- COFI is recognized by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) as a Registered Foreign Certification Organization (RFCO) and is authorized to certify mills and provide quality control supervision for grade stamping to Japanese Agricultural Standards: JAS 600–Japanese Dimension Grades.
- National Lumber Grades Authority dimension lumber carrying a COFI grade stamp is recognized by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation (formerly Ministry of Construction) for use in wood-frame construction.
